The Event: NeoStrata Skincare Christmas Pamper Evening

23 Nov

(Wooh… take that for a whopper of a blog title)

Aaaaanyway…

It’s not every day that you are invited to a swanky event so when I was kindly contacted by one of my favourite PR companies and asked to attend a blogger event.. I couldn’t RSVP quick enough!

DSC_0216[1]

Being a complete newbie to this brand, I was all ears when i got the chance to have a chat with one of their top skin consultants. After discussing my skin needs and going over what my skin type is, she was able to recommend what range of products to use from the line and in what order. She also went through the background of NeoStrata and why it’s such a great brand to use. Here’s what I learned: NeoStrata is an American  skincare brand in which the products are all clinically-proven and dermatologist developed. The brand covers a multitude of skin needs from ageing to sensitivity and has something for all skin types; oily to even the driest of skins.  NeoStrata uses all-natural compounds that are similar and just as effective as AHAs(Alpha Hydroxy Acids) but do not cause irritation, even in patients with sensitive skin. They are fastly becoming one of the leading skincare brands worldwide and their technoligies have even been used by brands such as Avon, Chanel, Este Laduer and Elizabeth Arden to name but a few!

One of the things that striked me most about the night was the decor. The entire room was beautifully Christmas themed which of course I was all over! Christmas trees and baubles in November= a very happy and excitable Kate!

On my arrival, I was greeted with some blueberry Prosescco and chocolate (which is enough to keep any blogger happy!)

DSC_0224[1]

If all the skincare chitter chatter wasn’t enough, there was also a MAC Make-up Artist on hand to give you the perfect bold winter lip or a slick flick of eyeliner. Thanks to her, I’ve now got my eye on a few new shades… ;)

DSC_0222[1]

My favourite part of the night was the nail artist from the popular nail bar Tropical Popical who very kindly did our nails for the night. With pretty much any design and colour range to choose from, I was spoiled for choice. In the end I chose of medley of designs and colours and I pretty much have not been able to stop staring at my nails since! #inlove

On the night, I wore a very simple outfit; classic black skinnies paired with a peplum-esque floral top from Forever 21 and the ever reliable heeled ankle boots from New Look.

DSC_0197[1]

I kept my eyes quite bronzey using a combination of my Naked palette and the new Rimmel liquid eyeshadows in shade:    (a combo I’ve been loving at the moment) On my lips I wore my current go-to lipstick: Kate Moss Long Lasting lipsticks in 107 which is fastly becoming a hero product in my books

DSC_0209[1]

If it wasn’t a great night already, I also got the chance to mingle and swap blogging tips with some other really lovely bloggers which was amazing and I was finally able to put faces to a few names.

DSC_0213[1]

Overall, I had a really awesome night and of course I didn’t go home empty handed. Neostrata were kind enough to supply us with full-sized samples of some of their best-selling products and I’m literally dying to try them all out. Watch this space for some reviews!

Winter Lips; Sorted!

3 Nov

Well I’m sure by now we are very aware that it is bloody freezing outside! One minute I was buying ice-lollies in Tesco and now I’m trying to dig out my favourite leather gloves from the mess that is my wardrobe. Winter is truly on it’s way and in my books, this means only one thing; dry, chapped lips! Eeeeeeeek!

Pretty much every beauty blogger is armed with enough lip products to make Paris Hilton proud, but there are only really two products that qualify as my true hero products when it comes to pesky winter lips:

picture069

  1. Lush Popcorn lip scrub: Containing ingredients such as coconut, jojoba oils, sugar, sea salt and polenta there are no nasties, no chemicals just a fuss-free lip scrub that simply does the job. To use, simply apply a small amount to dry lips, give it a good rub around and remove using a dry toothbrush or even better your tongue… Yum! This scrub is incredibly ex-foliating leaving no dry skin safe but it is also very nourishing so it dry out or leave your lips feeling irritated. This would be a lovely christmas stocking filler or just something to pamper yourself with  https://www.lush.co.uk/product/6080/Popcorn—25g
  2. Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip balm: With one sold apparently every 28 seconds throughout the world this lip balm is perhaps hands down the most moisturising lip balm I have EVER used! Perfect as a deep night treatment or as a handbag essential, I will never be without this bad boy! I use it pretty much every single night and it’s so thick and moisturising that I still have some on my lips the next morning!  It’s definitely not the cheapest lip balm I own, but this will last you months and months. http://www.feelunique.com/p/NUXE-Reve-de-Miel-Baume-Levres-Ultra-Nourrissant-Ultra-Nourishing-Lip-Balm-15g

The combination of the two of these products really is the stuff dreams are made of but don’t just take my word for it, grab the two of these on your next shopping trip and prepare to be gobsmacked!

What are your favourite lip products to battle the dreaded Winter Lips?

Sleepingbootay’s Bedside Beauty

22 Sep

P.J’s on. Check. Teeth Brushed. Check. Bedtime tea made. Check. Bedtime beauty routine… huh?

Yep that’s right, I have a bedtime beauty routine. My bedside locker is more than just a bookshelf, here, I like to keep a few products that I need right before bedtime. All day we primp and preen ourselves with various different products, and I believe that bedtime should be no different.

bedside beauty

  • Nuxe Reve de Miel lipbalm: Night-time is pretty much the only time I have to really let products seep in and do their magic. This means, I get the chance to use my most heavy, moisturising and consequently my favourite lip balm; the Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm. After every application, I wake up in the morning with “new” lips that feel truly looked after! Hurrah! http://sleepingbootay.wordpress.com/2012/06/24/the-new-love-of-my-life-3/
  • The Body Shop Hemp Hand Cream: This hand cream takes its’ sweet time to dry on my hands so it was swiftly moved from my handbag to my bedside locker. It’s perfect for night-time application, especially if paired with some cotton moisturising gloves to lock in as much moisture as possible. If you aren’t a fan of the Hemp version, the Body Shop offer some other seriously good hand creams with different scents at the same great quality. http://www.thebodyshop.ie/catalogsearch/result/?q=hand+creams
  • My trusty Sudocrem: I really shouldn’t have to go too much into this, as I’m sure you’re all aware of my undying love for Sudocrem. It’s multi-purpose and my good ol’ trusty holy grail spot reliever. Any time I feel a pesky spot coming on or even a little eczema irritation I pop on a blob of this and let it do its’ thang! If you’d like to read more about me professing my love to Sudocrem here’s a link to a previous post http://sleepingbootay.wordpress.com/2012/03/15/sudocrem-hits-the-spot/ ……. it gets deep guys, you have been warned!
  • Rescue Remedy: Night-time should be a time for us all to wind down and calm our minds, unfortunately for me, my body does the opposite. To be honest, I seem to get my most worry-monsters and panicky moments at night-time. This can really disrupt your sleep and result in a very cranky moody morning. A few drops of Rescue Remedy before bed, helps to calm my nerves and get me into a sleeping groove.
  • Burt’s Bees lemon cuticle cream: I’m the first to hold up my hands and confess that I do tend to skip cuticles when it comes to my nail care. However, Burt’s Bees makes it a whole lot easier and enjoyable with their lemon cuticle cream. I don’t know if it really does much for my cuticles, but heck it smells amazing and that’s really all that matters, eh?!

Finished off with a piping hot mug of tea and my current novel and I’m good to go,

Night guys,

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz……..

Oh and p.s: If you’d like to read some more Bedside Beauty posts similar to mine, here are a selection of my favourites:

Origin’s Super Spot Remover; Worth the Hype?

11 Sep

Origin's Super Spot remover

Every now and again, a beauty product comes along that makes me go “oooooooooh” and “aaaaaahhhhh”. The Origin’s Super Spot Remover fits this criteria!  I don’t usually write about individual products, but with all the hype around this product, I just couldn’t resist!  I have used many spot creams, gels, lotions etc. in my time but nothing has worked quite as well as this Origin’s gem. This spot remover is the superhero of all spot removers. Its’ powers include; calming redness, reducing the spots’ size and preventing scarring. Literally everything than you can expect from a spot removing gel!

Also, call me strange, but when I use a spot cream, I love to feel the burn! Y’know the one, where it tingles and you can literally feel the spot dying! I love it! This spot remover does exactly that! On first application, the gel will tingle and sting a tad, just for a few seconds, and that’s when you can feel it working!  If you aren’t a fan of this sensation, then perhaps this spot remover is not for you!

The main ingredient which causes this tingling/burning feeling is Salicylic Acid. It is a super spot fighting acid, that also helps to reduce scarring. Due to the strength of this ingredient, you need to be careful with the amount of the gel that you apply. You simply need no bigger than a pea-sized blob and apply only to the affected area. Obviously avoid the eye area with this product and wash your hands after use.

Other ingredients include hazel and clove oil which contribute to the eradication of breakouts and cooling ingredients cucumber and caffeine which help to calm and soothe the area after the initial buuuurn!

Origins super spot remover

The only downside to this bad boy and really the only negative thing I have to say about this product is that because it is very strong, it is also quite drying, particularly if used under foundation! In the mornings, the affected area may appear quite dry or flaky. In this case, I recommend only using this gel at night and then applying a thick moisturiser in the morning before your foundation. Avoid exfoliating the dry area until the spot has completely disappeared or you will just irritate it further!

At only a mere 10ml, it’s quite small in size but I can guarantee that this wee tube will last yonks! I’ve been using mine for just under a month now and I haven’t seen much of a decrease in the amount!

Overall, I would definitely recommend this product and I feel it’s a must in every girls’ skincare kit!

The Origin’s Super Spot Remover retails at 18 yo yos and is available nationwide!

Beauty Jibber Jabber Explained #1

10 Sep

Sleepingbootays beauty jibber jabber

With the increase of beauty blogs, beauty magazines and beauty YouTube channels, many new and confusing beauty terms are thrown around at a whim. But when it comes down to it, how many of us actually understand this jargon? When you buy a new product, most of us want to know what’s in it and what the hell we are applying onto our bodies. However, we are often left tongue-tied and in dismay at the ever confusing ingredients list.

Well no fear folks, my new series of posts; “Beauty Jibber Jabber Explained” is aimed to explain and define what these terms mean and make it a little easier when it comes to delving into the beauty world!

So without further delay, here’s my first batch of Jibber Jabber, …learning caps at the ready guys and prepare to get beauty-term savvy!

  1. Allergen: This is a substance that can cause an allergic reaction. Allergens can be found in a variety of sources and can depend on the sensitivity of the individual. If you are part of the sensitive folk team, look out for Allergen-free on the labels of products.
  2. Benzoyl Peroxide: An antibacterial ingredient commonly used in acne treatments. It works as a peeling agent on the skin, increasing skin turnover, reducing bacterial count and clearing pores. Can be very very harsh on the skin and needs to be used in tiny portions.
  3. Blackheads: A term used to describe the skin’s pores clogged by natural oils and impurities, named due to its appearance on the skin as little black dots on the pores.
  4. Burdock: A root extract with antibacterial properties. May also reduce inflammations such as rashes, redness, acne, eczema. Can be purchased from many heath stores in tablet form as a supplement to help promote good skin.
  5. Cellulite: Pretty much the buzzword of the 21st century, this evil thang can be described as small deposits of fat and other material trapped in pockets beneath the skin. Booooo!
  6. Collagen: A natural substance within body tissues, making up about 25% to 35% of the whole-body protein content. In the cosmetic world, It can be injected into the skin to plump up particular areas.
  7. Dermabrasion: A procedure in which the skin is sanded to improve its texture. Microdermabrasion uses a type of sand to abrade the skin, usually done by an esthetician or a cosmetic doctor. Newer products in the beauty world are now containing dermabrasion  properties allowing you to “do it yourself” at home.
  8. Emulsifier: A thickening agent added to products to change their physical composition. For example, it can turn a lotion into a cream.
  9. Hyaluronic Acid: An acid that occurs naturally in the skin, helps retain the skin’s natural moisture.
  10. Non-comedogenic: Also called non-occlusive. Refers to products that do not cause skin breakouts because they do not plug the pores of the skin. This is a biggy when purchasing beauty products and should be top of the list for those that suffer from breakouts in particular!

Okay guys, that’s all for my first instalment of Beauty Jibber Jabber Explained. If you liked it, and would like to see more, please let me know in a comment below!

Until next time, bye and thanks for reading!

Eat your way to happier skin :)

29 Aug
"Heart" your skin from the inside!

“Heart” your skin from the inside!

I’m a firm believer in the motto ” you are what you eat”.  Beauty from the inside out. As a beauty blogger, we sometimes forget about what’s underneath all those lovely beauty products that we have tried and tested and we often forget what effect all of these products can have on our skin. I guess we need to think of our skin as a separate entity. We need to clean it and take care of it but we also need to make sure we are feeding our skin what it needs.

YES TO EGGS!

YES TO EGGS!

Here are some skin super-foods which could help transform your skin from blah to tah-DAH!!

  • Eggs: B vitamins and sulphur for clear skin
  • Salmon; omega 3 fatty acids
  • Tomatoes: antioxidants and lycopene
  • Avocado: moisturising vitamin E
  • Chicken; protein for skin repair
  • Brazil nuts: selenium- powerful antioxidant
  • Oranges: Vitamin C: collagen production
  • Lentils: fibre: helps flush toxins
  • Broccoli: ultimate superfood: antioxidants and vitamins A, B, E and K.

Obviously there are sooo many more great skin superfoods but lets face it I’d bore you to death! If you want to know more about great skin booster foods, give it an ol’ Google or simply ask me in the comment section below! :)

Dinner is served....

Dinner is served….

Foods to try and avoid/ consume minimally:

  • Dairy instead opt for a soy/rice/ almond alternative
  • Wheat
  • sugary foods
  • Anything with a high salt content
Nom nom broccoli!!

Nom nom broccoli!!

Of course the top tip to good skin is hydration! Even though it’s the most told tip in the beauty world, you need to make sure you are getting your 2litres a day and try your best to swap things like tea and coffee for a herbal tea like Green tea which is great for glowy skin.

On top of your food and drink, you could also take a vitamin supplement specifically tailored toward hair and skincare. Viviscal and Perfectil are great brands for both and I would recommend them to anyone. However if these are out of your budget Boots and other pharmacies do their own brand of “beauty-biotics” targeted for skin, hair and nails.

Healthy skin sample meal plan (using the skin super-foods mentioned above):

  1. Breakfast: Boiled egg with gluten free toast- banana and green tea
  2. Lunch: Avocado salad: tomatoes, cucumber, avocado, rocket, spinach, red onion and peppers. Drizzle with oil and balsamic vinegar ( add salmon for a non-veggie version) and 1 mandarin
  3. Dinner: Lentil and bean stirfry: (add chicken for a non veggie version) Lentils, assorted beans, broccoli, carrots, courgette, onion and peppers. Soy sauce, garlic and chili flakes.
  4. Snacks: brazil nuts and soy yoghurt

Once you’ve stuffed yourself silly with these nutrient rich foods, you can then try slopping some of these goodies onto your face as a fresh face-mask! Honey, oats and natural yoghurt is a great simple recipe to try… plus you can eat the leftovers! ;)

Ok guys, that’s all for now!

Just a wee reminder that of course I am in no way a skin-expert, I just have a huge interest in beauty and health and thought I’d share some tips! Hope some them helped! Let me know if you’d like to see more of these types of posts!… I’ve got a few good’uns up my sleeve. :)

Thanks for reading, Until next time, Bye!

Sleepingbootay’s June Favourites

14 Jul

While June wasn’t the most exciting month here in Ireland in terms of weather and events, there’s nothing short of excitement when it comes to my June favourites. It’s well on to a spanking new month, so what better time to talk to you about some of the products that have dazzled me over the past few weeks.

PUT YO' HANDS UP FOR MY JUNE FAVOURITES!! Wooooooh!

PUT YO’ HANDS UP FOR MY JUNE FAVOURITES!! Wooooooh!

1) Bioderma Crealine H2O: I literally couldn’t be any more late to the party with this product. Bloggers and beauty-lovers have ranted and raved about this product for the past year and a half so I finally gave in and bought it! For those of you who are even more behind than me, this is basically a water-based make-up remover and boy does it remove that make-up! A teensy bit on a cotton pad will remove a full face of make-up in a flash, including even the most pesky mascara or eyeliner. The formula is light and fragrance-free and gentle so it doesn’t irritate my skin. The only thing you need to remember is that this is a make-up remover only and shouldn’t be used in place of a cleanser or face wash. It can also be a little drying so you need to follow up with your regular moisturiser. Bioderma wins all the prizes here in Sleepingbootay land however, its’ only downfall is its’ availability. As it is a French brand, I cannot find it anywhere in Ireland so I purchased mine on eBay ( you can also find it on Amazon).

2) Nars sheer glow foundation: I dunno what has gotten into me lately but I’m all about the change and that didn’t stop when it came to make-up shopping last month. I was getting a tiny bit bored of my beloved Rimmel Wake Me up and I was itching to try out something new. As it seems to be getting hotter and hotter here in Ireland, I wanted something light and glowy but still with enough coverage. Enter: Nars Sheer Glow. This foundation makes make-up application easy. It creates a flawless glowy base without looking cakey or heavy. While I’m very much attached to my Real Techniques stippling brush, I’ve ditched it in favour of my fingers to apply this foundation as I feel it gives the best finish. The only disadvantage to this foundation is its’ durability (especially on hotter humid days). I’ve been using this with my Revlon perfecting primer and MAC’s blotting powder to keep it in place all day.

3) La Roche-Posay Toleraine cleansing lotion: I chop and change my cleansing lotion like my clothes. I’m constantly on the look out for new sensitive skin friendly lotions and potions that will agree with my skin. Last month I returned to an old favourite; La Roche-Posay in search of a new cleanser. Their brand “Toleraine” is tailor made for those who suffer from redness and sensitivity a.ka: ME! I’ve been using it for over a month now and have no problems whatsoever. It cleanses my skin effectively, leaves it feeling soft and doesn’t irritate. Hurrah!

4) Bourjois magic nail polish remover: I’m not gonna lie, I’m all about the beauty gimicks and whats more gimicky than a magic nail polish remover?! But what is it,You may ask. Well, the clever clogs over at Bourjois have created a way to remove your nail varnish without the use of cotton wool or nail varnish remover. It comes in a small pot filled with a vitamin and nutrient-rich soaked sponge. To remove your nail varnish you simply dip your finger into the sponge, twist for a couple of seconds and remove… and the varnish is gone! MAGIC! While this product isn’t necessarily necessary, it does save time when it comes to doing your nails, smells great and helps to nourish them along the way. Win, win win!

Okay guys to that’s it for my relatively short June Favourites! I’d love to hear what products you’ve been using and loving recently so please leave a comment below!

Until next time, thanks for reading! I’m off to nap!

Sunday’s Lustlist #3

24 Jun

Ok, so I’m aware that today is not Sunday. I’m also aware that  yesterday (which was actually Sunday) was a day of putting things off. I literally spent the entire day in bed being lazy and watching multiple episodes of Come Dine with Me. But it’s okay, I’m here today, with my third instalment of the Sunday (ish) Lustlist a.k.a things I want/NEED this week and it’s a good’un!

What I really got up to on Sunday- FACE MASK TIME!!

What I really got up to on Sunday- FACE MASK TIME!!

1) Asos Tile Print Peg Trousers:

This month I’ve been pretty much all about the trouser. I’ve been living in a pair of black peg trousers from H&M and I feel like i need to branch out and experiment with some colour and print. These trousers add both without being too “out there” and will go with my already very monochrome wardrobe. I feel like I could make these daytime or nightime-friendly with just a few accessory adjustments. Investment buy? Hellz yayah!

2) Caudalie Beauty Elixir:

I feel so left out in the beauty blog world without this cult product. Anyone who’s anybody in the blogging world has and loves this so I feel like I need to have it and love it too. Watch this space for a review…FINALLY. :)

3) Neon Converse:

Surely when you own over 15 pairs of converse, it’s time to stop. Nope, not when you’re Kate. To tie in with my current neon obsession, these converse have me written all over them. Perfect to put with my countless all black or grey outfits! GIMMIE!!

4) Biscuit Mug:

I should really just start up an entire new series of blog posts dedicated to my mug fetish. I’m pretty much at my happiest with a mug of tea in my hand, so my choice in mugs is a very serious and important process for me. This one is not only lovely but also super practical… no more worries about where to put my biccie! Hurrah!

Anyone who knows me well, knows that I am a shameless necklace fiend, in particular large statement pieces. The bigger the better! I’ve had my magpie eyes on this one from River Island for quite some time now and I simply will not rest until it’s mine!
